Maternity portraits capture a special time in a woman's life, celebrating the journey of motherhood. Here are five tips to help you create beautiful and meaningful maternity portraits:

1. Choose the Right Location

Select a location that complements the mood and style of the shoot. Indoor sessions can create intimate and cozy portraits that include implied nudes. Many clients prefer studio portraits because there is a bathroom nearby and they do not have to deal with the heat and bugs. However, natural settings like parks, gardens, or beaches can provide a serene and beautiful backdrop.

2. Plan the Wardrobe

The right wardrobe can enhance your maternity portraits and the overall composition of the image. Flowing dresses, form-fitting gowns, or elegant robes can accentuate the curves of the baby bump. Neutral colors work well, as they bring a soft, timeless quality to the images. Gem toned colors create elegant images that make images really pop. We have over 50 gowns in our client closest and that number is always growing!

3. Use Soft, Natural Lighting

Soft, natural lighting is key for maternity portraits. With the right lighting we can really accentuate the baby bump and flatter mom. We like to use a variety of lighting styles for all of our maternity sessions. Silouhettes are a client favorite.

4. Incorporate Personal Touches

Bringing personal items, that hold special meaning, such as baby shoes, ultrasound images, or other keepsakes can add depth and storytelling to the portraits. You might also consider including your partner, grandparents, siblings and/or pets in the shoot to capture your family dynamic.

5. Focus on Comfort and Posing

We strive to make sure you are comfortable throughout the session. We offer guidance on poses that flatter the baby bump while emphasizing your natural beauty. We encourage you to relax and connect with the moment, which will result in more genuine and emotive portraits.

Our goal is to create stunning images that capture the beauty and emotion of this special time in your life.
